First Round: Placement Test

*Beginner Level course:
Students who score below 45 on the First Round Placement Test will be eligible to take a 16-hour ‘Pre-Level 1’ course, which will run 09:00 – 13:00 Tuesday 10/09/2019 – Friday 13/09/2019. Classroom numbers will be announced on at 19:00 on 09/09/2019.
The course is free and is designed to help those students with very little or no English, to grasp the basics so that they are ready to cope with Level 1. Students will learn the basic structure of the language as well as the essential vocabulary they need to make sense of what is expected in Level 1.

Classroom Language
Basic Adjectives
Common Verb Collocations
Question Words
Introducing Yourself
Present Simple

Students who do not take the First Round Placement Test cannot join the course, so if you are worried that your English level is low, please take the test so that you have the opportunity to join the course if you need to.

Test details: Pearson Versant English Placement Test. 50-minute online test with nine sections. Tests reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Aligned to the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference levels A1 to C1. Scores range from 20 to 70. To watch a demo of the test go to:

If you are able to present any of the following external exam results and certificates, you are exempt from Round One and Round Two of ELPP testing and can enter your Faculty programme immediately:

Important information:
- Before the exams, we recommend you check the exam samples on the MEF University website by clicking on the links below.
-Nobody other than the students and staff will be allowed on the exam floors for the security of the examinations.
- Make-up exams are not held for either stage of the Placement Exams.
- Students who do not come for the First Round Placement Test are automatically placed in Preparatory Program Level 1, but will not be eligible for the free Beginner Level course which will run Tuesday 10th September to Friday 13th  September.
