MEF University Participated in the 70th Session of SIHDA

Professor Prof. Dr. Havva Karagöz, Faculty of Law Roman Law Department, and Cem Uysal, have participated in the 70th Session of SIHDA (Société Internationale Fernand de Visscher pour l’Histoire des Droits de l’Antiquité). The conference took place between September 13- 17 in University of Paris II Panthéon-Assas Sorbonne.
 
The theme of this year’s conference was “Law and Peril”. Havva Karagöz served as a member of the Managing Committee while also presiding a panel on September 16. Along with Prof. Dr. Emmanuelle Chevreau from France and Prof. Dr. Filippo Briguglio from Italy, Prof. Karagöz was elected to the Managing Committee for the 71st Session of the conference planned to take place in Bologna. Res. Ass. Cem Uysal presented his paper entitled “The Passing of Risk in Ancient Rome and the Origins of Insurance Law”.
 
The 1st Session of SIHDA had been convened under Fernand de Visscher’s lead in Brussels in 1945. The convention gathers hundreds of jurists and historians from around the world, every year. In these annual conferences founded and organized by International Fernand de Visscher Association of Legal History of Antiquity (Société Internationale Fernand de Visscher pour l’Histoire des Droits de l’Antiquité), academics can present papers in Italian, French, Spanish, German, and English. The conference is held in a different city every year, and the 69th Session took place in MEF University in İstanbul in 2015.
