Biography

She completed her PhD thesis in 2012, entitled “Selim III’s Istanbul: Building Activities in the Light of Political and Military Transformations,” under the History of Architecture program at Istanbul Technical University. In 2014, she was awarded a senior fellowship from ANAMED at Koç University for her project, “Imperial Mosque Courtyards as Social Nuclei of Istanbul.” The later stages of this project received support from both Salt Research and the Istanbul Research Institute. Additionally, she received a Barakat Trust Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Khalili Research Centre, Oxford University, for 2017–18. During 2018–19, she was granted the Barakat Trust Major Awards for her project, “A Reformist Sultan in the Age of Revolutions: Politics, Art, and Architectural Patronage of Selim III (r. 1789–1807).” She co-edited a book with Prof. Hatice Aynur titled "Osmanlı Mimarlık Kültürü" (Ottoman Architectural Culture) and two books with Dr. Suzan Yalman: “Sacred Spaces & Urban Networks” and “The Friday Mosque in the City: Liminality, Ritual, Politics”. These were published consecutively in 2016, 2019, and 2020.
