Academic English Program

Our Faculty Academic English courses are designed to equip students with the essential skills needed to succeed in their undergraduate studies. These skill-based classes aim to develop academic listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities across a range of topics, using a holistic approach that encourages the effective use of English in academic contexts. As 21st-century learners are expected to become more confident, independent, and proficient users of English, these courses also promote the development of critical thinking skills.

Faculty Academic English (EAP)

Success in modern higher education requires more than just language fluency; it demands the ability to analyze, argue, and innovate in a professional academic setting. The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program at MEF University is a mandatory cornerstone for 14 out of our 15 departments, specifically designed to transition students into high-performing undergraduate scholars.

A Skills-First Curriculum

Our curriculum moves beyond traditional grammar to focus on the high-level faculty skills required in the 21st century. Over a 15-week term, students engage in:

  • Critical Analysis: Mastering textual interpretation and cause-and-effect reasoning.

  • Advanced Rhetoric: Developing the confidence to deliver persuasive, argumentative presentations.

  • Digital Intelligence: Integrating modern AI literacy into academic workflows.

Structure & Commitment

Each 4-credit course is delivered through a streamlined synchronous model, featuring one hour of live instruction per week paired with 24/7 access to digital resources via Blackboard. To ensure mastery of the material, students should expect a minimum of two hours of independent coursework weekly.

Through this holistic approach, we empower our students to become independent, critical thinkers who are fully prepared to meet the demands of their chosen faculties.
