Biyografi

Prof. Dr. Ömer Usta received his BEng and MSc in Electrical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University (ITU), and PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath. Then, he joined to ITU where he was in different academic positions from 1993 to 2025. He was a Professor of Electric Power Systems, and responsible for developing and running highly successful courses such as Computer Networks for Power Systems, Computer Relaying for Power Systems, Digital Protection & Signaling, Power Generation, Power Transmission & Active Distributions Systems. He was the Head of the Electrical Engineering Department between 2007 and 2010, and the Dean of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Faculty at ITU between 2010 and 2013. He was the General Chair of 2014 IEEE PES ISGT Europe and also 2023 IEEE PES GT&D Conference and Exhibition held in Istanbul. Prof. Dr. Ömer Usta moved to the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at MEF University in January 2026 to run Electric & Eectronics related courses. His research interests includes power system monitoring, protection, automation, and hybrid micro-grids & renewables. He has published numerous conference and journal papers. He is also currently an investigator and primary consultant for a number of research and technological development projects related to digitalization and automation of power systems funded by TUBİTAK, different parts of the Turkish Industry and distribution companies. He is the members of IEEE PES, COMSOC and Computer Societies.
