Disaster Management Application and Research Center

Objectives of the Center

The objectives of the center are to prepare for and engage in disaster preparedness efforts using 21st-century methods and approaches in response to disasters occurring in Turkey and around the world. The center aims to conduct scientific research to reduce the loss of life and property caused by earthquakes, landslides, and floods resulting from active faults in Turkey.

Activities of the Center

The center conducts the following activities to achieve its objectives:

• Organizes social responsibility and awareness programs for students to support the university’s educational mission.

• Provides academic staff at the university with professional development and research opportunities, creating a platform for societal awareness programs.

• Engages in national and international scientific research, offers consultancy services, provides education for the public and private organizations, volunteers, and the community, and develops strategies.

• Carries out projects related to disaster management, including mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery, focusing on Istanbul, a mega-city in Turkey, and conducts work that adds value in national and international academic, social, and societal areas.

• Utilizes the flipped learning method and other contemporary technological tools and social media effectively for sharing disaster-related information, especially in preparation for disasters, and shares publications with the community.

• Establishes collaborations with regional and international institutions by organizing conference presentations, publications, networking meetings, and similar events as part of the center’s activities.
